The Dow surged 135 points to close above the historic 13,000 mark today. Blue chip leaders today included Alcoa (AA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) and IBM (IBM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) with gains of 5% and 3% respectively.
June crude futures rose 1.9% to $65.81 a barrel, after EIA data showed that U.S. gasoline inventories fell to the lowest levels in 18 months. June gold futures were fractionally lower to $687.30 an ounce.
The major European indices finished with nice gains across the board. France's CAC 40 Index and Germany's DAX both added 1%. Britain's FTSE 100 Index rose 0.5%.
