Fall 2010 Swing Trading College: 21st Century Trading Strategies for Short Term Traders (SPY, FAS, TNA)

It’s July 20, 2010. Graduation Night for the Spring 2010 Swing Trading College led by Larry Connors. Larry Connors is founder and CEO of TradingMarkets. He is also author of Short
Term Trading Strategies That Work
and High
Probability ETF Trading
(both with Cesar Alvarez). And here’s how he began the final night of the Spring 2010 semester:

“Tonight is graduation night. Four months, we’ve been together.
It’s been a fun four months.

“Was Friday a good day for everybody? Hopefully you took advantage of Friday’s market. Friday was good. I hope you took advantage of some of those shorts. That was a big day.

“That’s one of the things about trading as we are trading: you’ve got to be there. And when you’re there for those days, those are the kind of days that can turn into good months. I’m glad we were able to do that during our class and be able to see that together.”

FAS Chart

“I’ve mentioned this a few times … I can’t for the life of me fathom why any institution or anyone would have been buying on those days heading into last Friday.

“It was so overbought. And they kept buying and buying and then ultimately the market drops 3%.

SPY Chart

“That’s the way it works. We’ve talked about this for four months.
Four months ago, it might have been there in your mind about how it works to a point. But hopefully now you realize that this is the way it works:

“Markets become extremely overbought or extremely oversold. Those tend to be the opportune times – if you have specific strategies combined with the statistics for those strategies to help identify those days.

“And what I’ve seen over the past couple of months is that these days seem to be happening more often now than in the past.”
