Chief Investment Officer at Harris Private Bank, Jack Ablin is a veteran institutional investor who has used macro analysis and a focus on the big picture to make sure that he is on the right side of the most important decisions an investor can make: what markets to invest in and when.

As a data-driven investor, much of Jack Ablin’s work is geared toward helping investors avoid the sort of emotional decision-making that often leads investors into impulsive investment choices, and often crushing losses – as we saw during the market downturn of 2008. Jack Ablin talks about some of these pitfalls in the second half of our conversation, and provides some tips on avoiding them.

“By watching the same data consistently,” Jack Ablin notes, “I let the data tell me what is going on, rather than me thinking what’s going on and then finding data to support it.”
