– a company that specialized in making blue, green, and near-ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which are made from silicon carbide and gallium nitride. The lights are used by companies in products such as dashboard lights, market tickers, and video screens, including the giant screen in New York City’s Times Square. Cree also sells silicon carbide wafers, which yield semiconductors that work at higher temperatures and voltages than standard silicon devices.
