AOL Option Action Interesting On An Otherwise Dull Expiration

AOL
announced second-quarter results yesterday that were up nicely, but revenues were
up only 3% in the second quarter as opposed to 9% in the first. However, you may
note that the put options are seeing some active turnover. Nearly 20,000 October
40 — 50 put spreads have traded for $4.80 ($7.20 for the October 50 puts vs.
$2.40 for the October 40 puts.) Morgan buys the put spread on the PHLX. Yesterday
Goldman Sachs sold nearly 40,000 October 35 puts, so we’ve got GS betting on a
bottom being put in for AOL and MWD saying maybe not. I’ve gotta stick with
the money, so I’ve been building a long position along with GS.

is also getting some
interest on the put side, as 20,000 September 22 1/2 puts were purchased for
between $3.90 and $4.30 and a like number of December 15 puts were sold for
$1.80.

caught our eye.
