Have you looked at the NY Composite
lately? Or ever? It’s an average of all the stocks in the NYSE. It’s an
interesting gauge of the broader market (not just the techs). There may be some
support at 640 and there has been resistance near 666. Yes, 666, interesting,
very interesting.
Now what about a tech index. Let’s take another look at the SOX.
Earnings are being reported in line with estimates, but it seems
that’s not good enough. Whenever I discuss this with traders, they always tell me
one of two things. They either say that the issue is not current earnings, but
forward looking statements. This reason, I can accept. The second thing that I
often hear is that the companies missed the whisper number. The whisper
number!?! I find that this whisper number is a huge media issue. The media
reports one number, known as the consensus estimate, which is based on
fundamental analysis of financial statements, and a second number, which is the
opinion of a select few in the know. This I have a qualm with. I guess there
simply won’t be unbiased reporting until KBKR becomes the leading financial news
network.Â

Wednesday and gapped lower this morning. It found support at a prior resistance
level. Traders should watch for both a potential bounce and a breakdown. It had
already bounced intraday, but, of course, the day is not over yet. Perhaps we will
see similar action in the biotechs as we did on Wednesday. The biotechs moved
lower in the morning, but soon after took out the morning lows to lead to some
great short-term trading opportunities. Watch for similar late-day moves on
Thursday.

Thursday, despite a morning gap higher. Watch for this continuation to provide a
short opportunity. Volume on the breakdown day was strong, so, ideally, we’ll
see another strong volume day on Thursday. Note that this recent low is a new
52-week low.

PowerRating) is probably the best chart I’ve seen all week. GENZ completed its high level cup on Thursday following
Wednesday’s high volume move. Watch for a new closing high and a continuation
move on Friday. We’ve seen so many failed continuations in the last few weeks
that I’m definitely not going to speculate. The continuation move should
break through the intraday high of the breakout day.

PowerRating) has really had a hard time lately. It’s
testing support on Thursday, so I’m adding it to our Watchlist. Should it break
down here, watch for a move down to the next key level. As always, avoid
speculation. Patience is key in this market. It may bounce here, which could
also provide a short-term opportunity. Should it bounce, look for a move above
Wednesday’s close.
Until later,Â
