Another Volatile Losing Session on Wall Street
Today’s early rally fizzled out in afternoon trading after
economic reports showed U.S. home prices fell for the 17th month
in a row and that consumer confidence numbers also plunged to a
10-month low. Traders are also wary ahead of Thursday’s Fed
meeting.
Crude oil futures for July delivery fell
2% to $67.77 per barrel on forecasts that the weekly Energy Dept.
report will continue to show rising inventories. Gold
futures for August delivery fell 1.4% to
$645.30 an ounce.
Around Europe, Germany’s DAX index lost 0.9% to 7,860.52, France’s
CAC 40 index lost 0.8% to 5,953.36, and Britain’s FTSE 100 fell
0.4% to 6,559.30.
