Curtis Faith (curtisfaith.com) is an alum of one of the greatest trading experiments of all time – the wager by legendary traders Richard Dennis and William Eckhardt that trading could be taught like any other skill. Not only was Faith among the more successful of the talented group Dennis and Eckhardt assembled, but he has since become one of the most well-known of that original class of “Turtles”. His book, Way of the Turtle: The Secret Methods that Turned Ordinary People into Legendary Traders, both chronicled his experience in the Turtle trading project as well as provided an insightful blueprint into the worlds of trend trading, system building, and trading psychology.
In his upcoming book, Trading from Your Gut , Curtis Faith brings current thinking on how the brain actually works to the field of trading. Is it possible for emotions to actually work in the trader’s favor instead of against him or her? How can traders reconcile the left and right parts of the brain that neurologists say govern the different ways we think and react to? Can rules-based traders benefit from being more “instinctual”? Is there room in a discretionary trader’s methodology for a few golden rules that will never be broken?
In this two part interview, Part 2 to be published next week, Curtis helps us understand both why these questions are important and what traders who may be more influenced by one part of the brain over the other can benefit from tactics that involve the “underused” – all in order help traders make the most of their own neurological firepower when it comes to succeeding in the markets.
