Friday’s Stock Watch

The markets
followed up yesterday’s accumulation with a sell off
that sank the
Dow and the S&P 500 below their 50-day moving averages. There were no sectors
left green today, with Internet, telecoms, software, and broker/dealers deep in
the red. New 52-week highs also tapered off, with the lows list showing a little
life. Stocks on our watch lists were just about all down, with one of our recent
breakouts turning ugly.

Market breadth was negative, with NYSE
declining issues over advancing issues by a ratio of 2.0, and down volume over
up volume by a 6.25 ratio. Nasdaq declining issues over advancing issues came in
at 1.92, and down volume beat up volume by a 3.64 ratio.

Panera Bread Company

followed up its breakout with a 1.55% loss
on over twice average volume. We like to see breakouts follow through with some
upside, and the heavy volume suggests a heavy battle at hand.

looks to be coming off our list.

Recent Breakouts

size=2>

We monitor the action of Recent Breakouts as an indicator of
the market health for IT traders. When breakouts are acting well, this is a good
sign for the likelihood of further sustainable breakouts. When breakouts are
failing, IT traders should be even more cautious.
