Here Are Tuesday’s Top Names…
“Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto.” The ETFs experienced a strong percentage rally in Monday’s
session with technology leading the way. The
festivities started early, on the heels of nice gains overseas, but much of the
credit should be directed towards Merrill “not a Grinch” Lynch and the
Lehman elves, as this Christmas gift arrived early for the holidays. The one put

PowerRating) on its Christmas wish list while Santa’s other helpers were busy spreading
holiday cheer to all investors who still believed in year-end rallies and Santa
Claus by upping their portfolio equity allotment to 50%.
The
ETFs, as mentioned, all experienced handsome gains on the session, but volume
was once again lacking in intensity. We’ve stated in the past couple of
columns that the ETFs have remained in uptrends, despite two weeks of pulling
back from the recent highs (and at times it hasn’t been pretty). Of course
today’s gains put prices at higher levels and keep the trend from our October
lows intact, but we’ve also emphasized the need for institutional support. This
key ingredient was definitely missing. Lack of real buy interest for one session
as we approach the holidays is not a reason to stop believing…just yet. But,
further gains without the Generals’ participation will surely make us suspect
that the Grinch, not Santa, is the one behind today’s holiday decorating.
As daytraders of course, we don’t mind
whose sled we jump on, as we’re keeping our own little list of who’s naughty
(shorts) and nice (longs). We have the ability to ignore the tall tales and lore
that Wall Street loves to spread around the holidays by keeping our focus on
doing our work each and every day, knowing this can produce gifts to our trading
accounts year round.
