Markets Finish the Day Mixed

The U.S. stock markets have turned mixed
over the course of the trading day on Friday, with the Nasdaq climbing back into
positive territory while the Dow and the S&P 500 have remained in negative
territory after turning lower earlier in the session.

With colder weather across much of the
northeast U.S. generating some buying interest, the price of oil showed a strong
upward move on Friday. Crude for March delivery closed up $1.19 at $55.42 a
barrel after ending the previous session down more than $1 a barrel.

The price of gold saw some weakness during
trading on Friday, with strength in the value of the U.S. dollar generating some
negative sentiment. Gold for February delivery eventually ended the session down
$3.30 at $644.70 an ounce.
