Markets Start Week to the Upside
The major indices posted fractionally higher gains
to start off the week. Gains were made despite a slowdown in
manufacturing and a bankruptcy filing by subprime lender New
Century Financial.
May Crude futures finished the
day fractionally higher to close at $66.04 per barrel. Â Gold futures
for June delivery rose $2.50 to $671.50 an ounce.
Around Europe, France’s CAC 40 Index and
Germany’s DAX index both gained over 0.2%, while the U.K.’s FTSE
100 moved lower by 0.14%.
