Option Industry Conference And Hot Topics…

I spent the last four days
at the Options Industry Conference, an annual meeting of the movers and
shakers of the option industry. I would be remiss if I didn’t tip my hat to
the Philadelphia Exchange (PHLX), which put on one of the finest shows in
recent memory. Payment for orderflow and consolidation of option specialist
firms were the hot topics again this year. Consolidation is moving so quickly
that two deals were announced while we were at the conference. Kind of makes
you wonder whether the entire industry would be consolidated down to two firms
if the conference lasted a full week!

We’ve just switched over to some new servers and heightened levels of
security for our volume trackers and the inevitable glitches have kept our
computers from updating properly, so please pardon the brevity of this report.

has seen
considerable action on active turnover of 16 million shares. Calls are
dominating puts, but the edge is only slight at this point. Likewise, Ciena

is also seeing bulls overpower bears as 18.5 million shares
changed hands. The story on the option side is about the same, as speculative
buying has not been as responsible as the absence of sellers.

as my stock of the day on my Fox television show this morning) is trading up
strong on 23 million shares.
