Retail Surprises, Regulations Pass House, Markets Mixed

The Nasdaq was the only laggard on an overall strong day on the Street. A positive surprise in retail sale numbers combined with a gain in business inventories powered the bullish surge. The stock market shrugged off potential issues that may be part of the most comprehensive Wall Street regulatory bill in history, as it was approved by the House of Representatives today. The DJIA advanced +65.67 to 10471.50, the laggard Nasdaq slipped -0.55 to 2190.31 and the broad based S&P 500 gained +4.06 to 1106.41.
