A participant in one of the most famous trading experiments in history, Curtis Faith is one of the original Turtle Traders – a group of not-necessarily ordinary people selected by veteran traders Richard Dennis and William Eckhardt in order to settle a debate about whether or not trading could be taught like any other skills.
Curtis Faith (curtisfaith.com) is among the most well-known of this original Turtle class. His widely-read book, Way of the Turtle: The Secret Methods that Turned Ordinary People into Legendary Traders, provided a unique insight into his experience as a student of Dennis and Eckhardt’s trend trading approach as well as explaining how quantified trading system work, the role of psychology in trading and the benefits and pitfalls of backtesting when it comes to developing trading strategies. More recently, Curtis Faith is the author of Trading From Your Gut: How to Use Right Brain Instinct & Left Brain Smarts to Become a Master Trader, an insight into the ways that traders can use theories of left and right-brain thinking to help improve their success in the market, whether they are long term trend traders who follow strict trading strategies or short term swing traders or day traders who may rely on more discretionary tactics. This discussion forms the basis of Part 2 of our Big Saturday Interview with Curtis Faith.
Says Faith: “There is a lot of benefit to taking a very systematic approach because your left brain knows certain things about the right brain. We can have these systematic failures in cognition that make us look at things and think that they are better than they really are.”
