TradingMarkets’ Mid-Day Movers
Stocks have continued the rally that
began in the final half-hour of trading yesterday. The top story
today was the September Employment Report released before the market opened
(read Joe Corona’s column on how to trade the report
here).
The Department of Labor reported that Non-Farm Payrolls fell
-35,000, the consensus estimate was for a fall of -150,000 (economists showing
yet again why it’s called the “dismal” science). The Unemployment Rate was 5.1%,
slightly worse than the 5% forecast. U.S. Treasuries are trading slightly lower
after an initial spike down following the report.
November Crude Oil ($61.65) is trading slightly higher after
hitting a 2-month low yesterday but all the other energy futures are trading
lower. The oil and natural gas sectors are performing strongly.
Chemicals are also moving higher, while only the Airline,
Biotech and Insurance sectors are in the red.
