TradingMarkets Mid-Day Movers

With some
troubling inflation data generating some negative sentiment, the U.S. stock
markets have seen some weakness during trading on Wednesday.
Selling
pressure has remained subdued, however, limiting the downside for the major
averages.

Nonetheless, significant weakness has
emerged in the airline sector, as a turnaround by the price of oil has inspired
some profit taking. After hitting a low of $50.28 a barrel, crude for February
delivery is currently up $0.13 at $51.34 a barrel.

The price
of gold has turned higher over the course of the trading day on Wednesday. Gold
for February delivery is currently up $4.60 at $630.50 an ounce after hitting a
low of $620.60 an ounce.

The increase by the price of gold is
partly due to some weakness in the value of the U.S. dollar, which is giving
back some ground after trending higher in recent sessions.

Today’s PowerRatings
Heat Maps*
continue to show widespread weakness in the overall markets with the Drug,
Transportation and Materials and Construction sectors showing the most notable
weakness.
