TradingMarkets Mid-Day Movers
After moving
modestly higher in early trading on Tuesday, the U.S. stock markets have seen
some further upside over the course of the morning. The major
averages have all moved more firmly into positive territory.
The strength in the markets is partly due
to strong gains by resource stocks, which are moving higher along with
commodities prices. Gold stocks are posting some particularly strong gains, as
gold for February delivery is currently up $11.70 at $645.80 an ounce.
The markets are also benefiting from strength
among housing, defense, and semiconductor stocks. Texas Instruments

is helping to lead the semiconductor sector higher even though the company
provided disappointing guidance.
After turning lower over the course of the
previous session, the price of oil has moved back to the upside in morning
trading on Tuesday. In its first day as the front-month contract, crude for
March delivery is currently up $0.92 at $53.50 a barrel.
