Tuesday’s Stock Watch
The markets
were relatively quiet ahead of key data to be released this
week,
with the Dow and the Nasdaq closing slightly up, and the S&P 500 closing
slightly down. Volume was below-average, as semiconductor and Internet issues
led with modest gains, and oil and biotechnology stocks the biggest losers.
The semiconductor and broker/dealer indexes challenged, and closed right near
their 50-day moving averages. Stocks on our watch list were mixed.
Market breadth was slightly positive, with NYSE
advancing issues over declining issues by a ratio of 1.13, and down volume over
up volume by a 1.01 ratio. Nasdaq advancing issues over declining issues came
in at 1.05, and up volume beat down volume by a 1.27 ratio.
