Upcoming Economic Reports
Report to watch this week: It’s not exactly a “report,” but the financial world will be watching the Federal Reserve Open Market Committee meeting on Tuesday, October 5, like a hawk.
The current market environment creates an interesting puzzle for the Fed. The stock market is shaky at best (and at the beginning of the perennially nerve-jangling month of October), and inflation barometers crude oil and gold have kicked into overdrive in the recent months and days, respectively.
You have to wonder if the Fed hasn’t painted itself into a corner. Last fall, they cut interest rates just when the stock market was unraveling. Can they afford to do the same this year when they’re staring the current inflationary signals in the face?
Second-quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) comes out Thursday.
