Wednesday’s Stock Watch
We’re off to a negative
start for the week as the Dow and S&P 500 make new yearly lows, and
the NYSE and Nasdaq signal a distribution day. Now that we’re just a shot away
from testing the October lows, the question is asked “what could possibly turn
this thing around?”
Uncertainties over conflict with Iraq continue to
keep volume on the light side, while diplomatic efforts in the UN go by
unproductive. The US and UK announced they would consider altering their
deadline for Iraq disarmament, though would not hold out for the 45-day deadline
proposed by “swing” nations on the UN Security Council.
Stocks on our watch list continue to hold up.
Unfortunately research comes up empty for new quality stocks to add, though when
we do find them, it will be a sign that things are improving for the overall
market.Â
From Tuesday’s action:
Market breadth was negative, with NYSE
declining issues over advancing issues by a ratio of 1.40, and down volume over
up volume by a 2.50 ratio. Nasdaq declining issues over advancing issues came in
at 1.21, and down volume beat up volume by a 1.79 ratio.
