Wednesday’s Top Names
The major indices made a
gallant effort on Tuesday, despite the overall negative down day.
After opening near unchanged, they got slammed with the Consumer Confidence
Index report at 10:00 ET, showing 79.4 in September vs. 93.7 in August. The Dow
fell as low as -170, but the indices showed resilience during the day and made a
strong push in the final hour. This suggests the underlying tone is still pretty
good. The next big report is the employment data on Friday.
