There is no market like the market for exchange-traded funds (ETFs) right now. More and more long term investors and short term traders are learning about the many advantages that exchange-traded funds can provide. These advantages include lower costs, tax efficiency and much greater transparency compared to mutual funds. ETFs also have the buying and selling flexibility of stocks, but with the ability to have broad and diversified exposure to an ever-widening variety of markets.

Having been involved with exchange-traded funds since the early part of the decade, Lisa Dallmer’s current responsibilities include helping educate ETF traders and issuers on the innovation and market structure provided investors by way of NYSE Arca. Her background includes a position as Vice President with Blackbird Holdings, an over-the-counter derivative trading technology firm.
In this conversation with Lisa Dallmer, we learn how her background in derivatives helped provide insights into the way that ETFs work, and she answers some common questions about the relationship between stocks, mutual funds and ETFs, what long term investors need to know about leveraged ETFs, and how the average trader or investor can learn how to find the ETFs that will help them meet their short and long term goals.
