Apple Helps the NASDAQ Finish Higher

After turning higher over the course of
the previous session, the U.S. stock markets have shown a lack of direction
during trading on Tuesday. The major averages have moved back and forth across
the unchanged line, unable to sustain any significant moves.

One of the major movers today was Apple Computer

The price of oil saw some weakness during
trading on Tuesday, although it ended the session well off its lowest level of
the day. After hitting a low of $53.88 a barrel in early trading, crude for
February delivery closed down $0.45 at $55.64 a barrel.

The early weakness came as traders
continued to express concerns about the impact that warmer than normal
temperatures will have on heating oil demand. The price decrease also reflected
expectations of an increase in U.S. crude oil stockpiles.

The price of gold turned higher over the
course of the trading session on Tuesday, with gold for February delivery
closing up $5.60 at $615 an ounce after falling as low as $607 an ounce earlier
in the trading day.
