Early Rally Fizzles Out
U.S. stocks surged sharply in morning trading, but the Dow gave up
triple digit gains in the afternoon. Interest rate sensitive
traders and investors became nervous ahead of the Fed meeting
later this week.
Crude oil futures for July delivery fell
fractionally
to $69.13 per barrel after the nationwide oil worker strike ended
in Nigeria over the weekend. Gold futures for August delivery fell
0.4% to
$654.70 an ounce.
Around Europe, Germany’s DAX index fell 0.24% to close at
7,930.61, France’s CAC 40 index lost 0.3% to 6,002.85, and
Britain’s FTSE 100 index rose 0.3% to 6,588.40.
