Lucent Calls Rise; Nasdaq Rallies

Stocks turned it around at mid-day and staged a solid pre-Fed rally that took
the Nasdaq up 3.2% by the close. Semiconductors were the day’s top sector while
airlines were the weakest.
At the close, the VIX had decreased 1.94 to 33.35.
Among bigger movers on heavier-than-average volume:
PowerRating) held on to early gains and finished up 1.98 to 11.97. The
Lucent Jan. 02 12 1/2 calls soared 1.15 to 3.20 on more than 53,000 contracts.
PowerRating) gained 7/8 t0 20 13/16 while the Cisco April 17.5
puts fell 3/16 to 13/16 on more than 13,000 contracts.
PowerRating) rose 15/16 to 3 3/4 while the Gemstar April 40
calls added 15/16 to 3 3/4 on more than 7000 contracts.
