Major Indices Finish the Week Strong

U.S. stocks rose after Merck jumped 8.5% on a
dismissal in a Vioxx lawsuit case.  Traders showed optimism
as we head into the heart of earnings season.

Crude futures for May delivery
closed lower by $0.26 per barrel to $63.59. 

June gold futures added $8.40 to $688.10 an ounce.

Around Europe, Germany’s DAX Index led
with a gain of 1% to 7,212.07, France’s CAC 40 added 0.7% to
5,789.34, and the U.K.’s FTSE 100 also added 0.7% to close at
6,462.40.
