Preparing For The Open On Monday

U.S. equity markets will remain closed
for one more day on Friday as the exchanges prepare for business on Monday.

Markets in Europe are trading lower in
the session this morning in light of President Bush’s pledge for military
action and in response to the Taliban’s statement this morning.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei surged 4.1% to
close above the 10,008.89.

The Hang Seng closed up 0.9% at
9,655.45.

Elsewhere in Asia, Seoul, Taipei and
Bangkok all fell in anticipation of the U.S. markets opening lower Monday.

The Pentagon will be holding a news
conference 9:00 AM EST.

Congress agreed on a $40 billion aid
package.

The Producer Price Index (PPI) rose
0.4% in August. PPI Core number for August fell 0.1%. Coming in a little better
than expected.
