Stocks Finish Week With Gains
The major indices made small gains to kick off the third quarter.
The Labor Department’s monthly employment report showed non-farm
payrolls rose to 132,000, while the jobless rate remained steady
at 4.5%.
Crude oil futures for August delivery rose 1.4%
to $72.81 per barrel on signs that economic growth may accelerate,
which would increase fuel demand. Gold
futures for August delivery fell 0.6% to $654.80 an ounce.
Around Europe, Germany’s DAX index added 0.8% to 8,048.32,
France’s CAC 40 index gained 0.3% to 6,102.69, and Britain’s FTSE
100 index rose 0.8% to 6,690.10.
