Stocks Rise on Job Growth

The major indices are fractionally higher this morning. The June
employment report showed non-farm payrolls rose to 132,000, while
the jobless rate remained steady at 4.5%.

Crude oil futures for August delivery rose 1.2%
to $72.69 per barrel on signs that economic growth may accelerate,
which would increase fuel demand.  Gold
futures for August delivery fell fractionally to $650.40 an ounce.


Around Asia, Shanghai’s Composite index jumped 4.6% to 3,781.35,
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 1.25% to 22,531.74, and Tokyo’s
Nikkei fell 0.4% to 18,140.94.
