The ouster of ^YHOO^ CEO Bartz has encouraged buyers to send the stock higher for a second day. Shares of YHOO finished near session lows on Wednesday, but still gained more than 5%.

Among the financial stocks making big gains after a three-day retreat below the 200-day moving average are ^WFC^ and Goldman Sachs ^GS^, up more than 4% and 3%, respectively.

The sell-off in gold sent mining shares like ^NEM^ lower by more than 1% in trading on Wednesday. The stock rallied to a new yearly high on an intraday basis on Tuesday. Also closing lower were fellow gold miners ^AUY^ and ^HL^.
