Announcement:

The results from the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment survey will be announced at 10:00 a.m. EST, on Friday, June 27th.

Description:

The University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment is a phone survey of 500 people in the U.S., attempting to shed some insight on the overall feelings of the present and future state of affairs within the economy. It’s important to note that the survey only gathers the opinion of 10 people in each state, and thus, might not be the most credible information on a true statistical basis.

Trader Take:

The Michigan Consumer Sentiment failed to impress in May, and in the June preliminary guidance of only 56.7. It is highly likely however that final numbers for June may actually be slightly higher, in the 57.0 area. Regardless, the numbers of late have been quite lackluster and will likely stimulate a fresh round of “the sky is falling” headlines, post FOMC announcement.
