WorldCom Puts Fall; Stocks Sink

Stocks sank across the board Wednesday as blue chips dragged the Dow back
below 10,000 for the first time since October. Japanese stocks were the day’s
weakest sector while banks were the weakest.

At the close, the VIX was up 3.87 to 34.60.
